Love Bites
LOVE BiTES is a prevention program that focuses on sexual assault and domestic and family violence. It is aimed at young people aged between 14 and 18. LOVE BiTES delivers educational workshops on sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as interactive workshops aimed to consolidate the core teachings through creative outlet. Participants can write, perform and record a hip hop song, radio advertisement or drama piece; as well as develop art works for posters and other resources focussing on the prevention of Violence Against Women. These creative works are then used to develop local campaigns, led and delivered by young people, to challenge Violence against Women in their communities.
Over 20,000 high school students throughout NSW and Queensland have participated in the LOVE BiTES program, with over 1,000 workers and teachers already trained throughout New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.
Respectful relationships between male and females are consistently modelled in LOVE BiTES.
The LOVE BiTES TRAIN THE TRAINER package has been written for any professional working in the area of Domestic and Family Violence and Sexual Assault who has an interest in or responsibility for running Violence against Women Prevention programs.
NAPCAN advocates for a whole of school approach to the prevention of Violence against Women and has included in this package lesson plans on gender deconstruction, sexual harassment and bystander strategies that can complement the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education curriculum.
LOVE BiTES is based on best practice standards for education programs as recommended by the Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearing House and leading academics in the area of violence against women. LOVE BiTES was developed in New South Wales by the North Coast Area Health Women's Health and Sexual Assault Service.
The LOVE BiTES program currently reaches young people across New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania. If you would like LOVE BiTES in your area or school, please contact Trudi Peters on (02) 6584-4326.
LOVE BiTES is grateful to the NSW Government, the NT Government, FaHCSIA and our private sponsors for their continued support and funding. We would also like to acknowledge all the workers who have facilitated and the students who have attended the LOVE BiTES program, whose feedback has contributed to the program.
If you would like to support the LOVE BiTES program and help prevent child abuse and neglect through the education and empowerment of young people, please contact our Port Macquarie office on (02) 6584-4326.
