Female genital mutilation

Female genital mutilation and cutting is a dangerous and irreversible procedure performed involuntarily on girls (usually aged 5 to 10 years) with horrendous effects on a girl's health, child-bearing capabilities and educational opportunities.

Online child abuse material

NAPCAN supports any effort - by mandatory and/or voluntary means - to stop child abuse material being available on the Internet.

NAPCAN urges both industry and government to take all steps to prevent or reduce the availability and distribution of child abuse material online.

Shared parenting laws

The Attorney-General is currently considering a number of reports on the operation of the family law system and how the family law courts deal with cases involving family violence. NAPCAN has developed a position on the impact on children of the "shared parenting" provisions of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth).

Northern Territory intervention

NAPCAN prepared a submission to the Senate Inquiry into Social Security and Other Legislation Amendment (Welfare Reform and Reinstatement of Racial Discrimination Act) Bill 2009 and the Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and Other Legislation Amendment (2009 Measures) Bill 2009 along with the Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and Other Legislation Amendment (Restoration of Racial Discrimination Act) Bill 2009.
