NAPCAN, with the support of UBS, is proud to announce the successful submissions for the KiDS CAN Microgrants 2007 MORE |

One stream of KiDS CAN is our Microgrants program. Initiated in 2006, KiDS CAN has managed to raise and distribute approximately $60,000 in cash grants up to $1,000 each along with an additional $15,000 in resources. Receiving 73 submissions in 2007, over the last two months we have reviewed and allocated grants to 56 initiatives throughout NSW.
From these 56 submissions, three were selected by a panel of corporate judges to receive a KiDS CAN Award. The purpose of the Awards is to highlight the outstanding efforts of our children and young people, and then to promote outstanding initiatives being developed at a community level. The KiDS CAN program then seeks support to raise the profile of initiatives in order to make them freely available to all children and young people.
NSW Community Services Minister Kevin Greene officially launched the annual KiDS CAN Awards on October 24th at the Harbour Terrace, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. The event was co-hosted by NAPCAN Ambassador Julie McCrossin and school student Harriet Wallace-Mead, who interviewed a number of children and young people showcasing some of the initiatives that received a microgrant this year.
Mr Gerard Satur, from UBS, announced this year's winners: First place went to Banskia Public School for their Kids Art Network ( KAN ), and equal second place to: Rosie's Place - Coming Together, and Kempsey South Public School - Murring Living: (Dunghutti - Good Living) MORE
Entertainment was provided by students from Cabramatta High School and St Scholastica's Glebe.
In its first year KiDS CAN supported 30 winners with Awards of cash grants up to $1,000, plus computers and in kind support from organisations such as the Department of Community Services. MORE
