Street Treat is a FREE street based playgroup for families and infants (0 - 5years) around the Rosemeadow-Ambarvale Community in Campbelltown NSW, which provides games for children such as Painting, bubbles, music, playdough, craft, climbing, stories and sing songs.
Street Treat is assisting locals in the area respond to the Child Friendly Challenge: Make your street child friendly. The latest meeting place is a grassy pedestrian lane, away from traffic, that has become a common area. Before Street Treat starting using the space it was littered with car parts and bottles - not very child friendly at all. After a few months, the local residents have seen the benefits to the children and their families, and have gradually cleaned up the area to be a safe and friendly place for children to play.
One of the great outcomes of the program is that it is helping mums and dads, many who were quite isolated in the community, to form a great network of friends and support to help them in their parenting. Here are some photos from a typical Street Treat play session.
