To celebrate National Child Protection Week in 2006, the held a poster competition, asking children aged 4-12 to design a poster that shows a child friendly town. This poster also incorporated the theme of "No Name Calling - No Put Downs".
Over 250 entries were received from children in Ingham, Thuringowa and Townsville. There was a great breadth of entries ranging from safety in the home (Don't stick forks in toasters!); to "Don't smoke near children"; to messages against bullying; to what makes them feel safe in the community.
Overwhelmingly, the theme was that what young children see as a child friendly community is one where they have a park to play in - where they can run and play and be loud and have fun - without fear.
