From humble beginnings this Child Friendly Challenge turned into a massive, hugely succesful campaign in 2006. The simple task was to ask KiDS what they really need to grow up well with an invitation to send us back their replies. Giving children and young people a chance to play a part, their thoughts has helped us paint a picture of what a child friendly community really looks like. The responses are assisting us formulate the child friendly challenges for 2007.

'As a child in Foster Care, I think that every child all over the world need their family and friends the most in their life. I think they need them for pride, care, support, comfort, respect and the most L.O.V.E. and also I think cause if they don't they'll probably be distressed and won't be happy . I know cause sometimes I get distressed because I don't stay with my real family, and but I know that I live with good loving parents of 8 kids plus there neice which is also in foster care, but I know that deep down they love me and will always take good care of me'. Happiness (for everyone) figured highly both in artworks and individual answers, as did good food, a safe, clean environment, with plenty of space for everyone to play. Eg Karly-Rose from Townsville: My poster is about happiness is everywhere. I has people trees. I has birds. It is a nice place to play and be. It is a sun and hot. People do not smoke so babies can go too. Child go in the holidays. And it is sunsmart you have to play.

Bullying gets a big thumbs down, but it's mentioned so often to indicate that it's a significant issue among KiDS. In response, we have set schools a special child friendly challenge. MORE
